HOW I GOT HERE:
Education, Early Career, and Experience

Civil Engineering and Business Administration were my main focus of education at The Citadel as a member of the class of 2000, which I am very proud of. After graduating I was fortunate enough to land a job with a state-wide engineering and testing company, spending my days learning a plethora of information about soils, building materials, laboratory testing procedures, and geotechnical engineering practices.
I soon earned my spot as a regional manager in the company after acquiring many certifications including SCDOT Batch Plant Inspector, ASCI Concrete Inspector, and ICC Commercial Plumbing, Mechanical, and Spray-Applied Fireproofing Systems Inspector. It took a lot of time and hard work to earn all of these, and I enjoyed what I was doing, but I wasn't quite happy...yet.
After leaving the engineering company and trying a few other endeavors (many other stories I will be glad to share in person), I decided to go work for the City of Charleston as an ICC Certified Commercial and Residential Building Inspector in 2013. This was an awesome experience and it's hard to describe the value of what I learned during my years there. Everyone I worked with was amazing, and I got to experience so many aspects of the construction and real estate industries. I wouldn't trade any of those experiences for anything.
I began to be commonly asked by my friends in the real estate business if I could take care of their clients' home inspections. I would have to explain that I wasn't "that kind of inspector," and that what I did for the city was a bit different than what they needed. But then I asked myself, "how different can it be? I already have certifications and experience, so I should look into this." And so I did.
Starting a company "on the side" was a bit of a daunting task, but I did it anyway, because I knew I would enjoy helping people. As a municipal inspector, inspections are either "passed" or "failed." There isn't a whole lot of interaction with clients beyond that. However, as a home inspector I was excited that I would be able to truly use my knowledge to help people in a huge decision-making process. That was WAY more attractive to me. So I decided to leave my position with the city, and focus 100% on home and property inspections for individual clients and agents.
So here I am. I love what I do. I truly and honestly LOVE what I do.
If you don't believe me, hire me and see for yourself.
